MEDIA RELEASE

The Moreton – Caboolture region has some of the highest rates of vulnerable children in Australia showing there is great demand for local support services.

Act for Kids is thrilled to officially open its Moreton Centre following a special community collaboration between multiple organisations to better support children and young people in the region.

“We are excited to be able to support children and young people who have experienced trauma through the new purpose-built Moreton centre, which is designed to be a safe and welcoming environment.

“Our team of specialists will deliver therapy and family services to children and families in-need,” explained Dr Katrina Lines CEO Act for Kids.

The Moreton Centre has been the culmination of a significant financial commitment and partnership between several organisations, including Auto & General, The Property Industry Foundation and the Caboolture Sports Club, which generously provided a peppercorn lease to Act for Kids for the project, after being approached by the Hon. Mark Ryan, State Member for Morayfield in 2020.

“It puts a genuine smile on my face to see the Act for Kids Moreton Centre complete and open for business,” said Mr Ryan.

“I’m proud to have played a part in bringing the various parties together to transform the old vet clinic into a great new community asset.”

Chris Pain, Chairman of the Caboolture Sports Club Board is also grateful for the outcome.  “Providing community support is at the very heart of why the Caboolture Sports Club exists,” Mr Pain said.

Act for Kids’ long-term corporate partner Auto & General have been the main contributor and supporter of the project since the beginning.

“The team at Auto & General, whose leading consumer brand is Budget Direct are proud advocates and supporters of the great work Act for Kids do in the Australian community, having donated over $4million to Act for Kids since 2010.

“The opening of the Act for Kids Moreton Centre provides Act for Kids with another way to make a difference and support children in need within the Moreton – Caboolture community, and we’re really proud to have been a major contributor to this project,” said Ram Kangatharan, Auto & General’s Group Managing Director & CEO, Asia Pacific.

Property Industry Foundation Queensland State Manager Antoinette Rusby-Perera said the Moreton Centre is a response to the evident need.

“Early intervention programs, like those offered by Act for Kids, are vital in ending youth homelessness, so the Foundation is thrilled to support the opening of the Moreton Centre which will play a crucial role in accommodating the demand for safe and supportive spaces in the area,” said Ms Rusby-Perera.

“The Foundation would like to thank Auto & General, Liebke Builders and the key suppliers and supporters who share our vision of a better future for Queenslanders in need,” she said.

Act for Kids relies heavily on the generosity of the community and other organisations to continue supporting children and families. We are so deeply grateful to everyone who has played a role in this project.
