Act for Kids is proud to join a diverse group of organisations in being recognised as an Inclusive Employer for 2023-2024.

The full list of inclusive workplaces was announced today, November 6, by Diversity Council Australia (DCA).

The DCA initiative is the only one of its kind in the country and celebrates diverse workplaces where people feel included and a sense of belonging.

The accolade comes after Act for Kids exceeded the national index benchmark in at least five of the six following areas: awareness, engagement, inclusive organisational climate, inclusive leadership, inclusive team and exclusion.

Townsville-based social worker Wesley Bennet, a Traditional Owner from Wakka Wakka, Gubbi Gubbi and Kullila Country, is among the organisation’s more than 450 staff.

“Inclusion to me is a felt sense of safety and connection for everyone in the workplace, no matter their ability, sex, race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or culture,” Mr Bennet said.

“Everyone brings value, and we should respect and celebrate each other’s strengths and differences.”

Act for Kids CEO Dr Katrina Lines congratulated the other employers recognised for their inclusion efforts in 2023-24.

“The acknowledgement as an Inclusive Employer is a testament to our commitment to creating a workplace where every team member at Act for Kids, and our social enterprise, Youthrive, is not only welcomed but celebrated for their unique qualities and contributions,” Dr Lines said.

“The power of inclusion goes far beyond our organisation. When our team members feel a sense of belonging, it directly translates into better outcomes for the children, young people and families we work with.

“Our dedication to inclusivity goes to the very heart of our purpose – we help keep kids safe, heal from trauma and lead happy lives.”
