Specialised Multi-Agency Response Team (SMART)
What is the SMART program?
The Specialised Multi-Agency Response Team (SMART) program consists of family and social support professionals who work together to support young people who have been charged with an offence and who have been to court. Each team is made up from the following agencies and support providers:
- Department of Youth Justice
- Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women
- Queensland Health and Hospital, and health services
- Department of Education
- Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander cultural support people, and;
- Any additional service provider you would like help from (e.g., Act for Kids)
Who are Act for Kids?
Act for Kids is a for-purpose organisation that delivers evidence-based professional therapy and support services to children and families who have experienced or are at risk of harm.
How can SMART help?
The agencies listed above can refer young people to SMART if they are at risk of reoffending. These agencies can help young people stay out of trouble by giving them access to services and support, including:
- Mental health programs
- Drug and alcohol programs
- Court hearings and proceedings
- Getting into the right school
- Connecting to culture
- Finding a doctor or health care provider
A SMART action plan
The SMART agency professionals will work with a young person who is in trouble to make a list of the things that the SMART agencies and providers can do to help. This is called a SMART action plan.
SMART agencies will only share information that is relevant to assisting agencies to work together and help a young person stay out of trouble.

Referrals
Walk Tall is designed for children and young people up to 18 years of age and their carers/family to help them overcome their experiences and challenges. This services is available to children in Nambour or the Sunshine Coast region whose families/carers want support from our Walk Tall program.Referrals can be submitted by a community support agency or self-referral representing the child, young person and or non-offending family/carer.
